Exiting Staff Technology Resources

For any staff that are leaving Shakopee Public Schools, there are a few tools that allow you to export some or all of your instructional materials. Instructional materials that you created can be exported for your use in the future.

Reminder:

Proprietary curriculum materials such as PLTW, from textbook publishers such as HMH or Savvas, and student work or data must not be downloaded/exported.

Google Drive

  • If you are retiring or leaving the district and you have materials that you know your colleagues will want to continue using, ensure they have been placed in a Shared Drive.
  • You cannot transfer ownership of your Google Documents outside of the @shakopeeschools.org domain. You can transfer ownership of documents to Shakopee staff if you want them to retain access, though it is recommended (and less time consuming) you add items to a Shared Drive instead.
  • You can download individual files and folders following this process.
  • You can also export just about anything from your Google Drive account using a service called Google Takeout. Click here to learn more about Google Takeout. By default, it is blocked for staff so you must create a Help Desk Ticket and work with a Tech Assistant to use it.

Canvas

If you are leaving Shakopee Schools and you would like to bring along the course(s) you created in Canvas, you can export them as a Common Cartridge file. These files allow you to import your course into Canvas and other LMS's such as Schoology and Blackboard.

  • Your account will be deleted within 90 days of ending your employment with Shakopee Public Schools.
  • Your Canvas Courses will be deleted after two years. Any Master (PLC) courses will remain in place for other staff.
  • Content uploaded to Canvas Commons will remain active even after your account has been deleted from Shakopee Schools. Items must be made available to all users in Commons in order for you to access them from another account.

Seesaw

Seesaw Activities are likely the only thing you (and possibly your colleagues) may want to retain access to after you leave Shakopee Schools. You have some options:

  • You can continue using your account, but you need to create a Help Desk Ticket requesting that your account be removed from our Seesaw for Schools plan. You will then need to change your email address to a personal email address.
  • You can share your Activities in a number of ways. You can generate a link to an activity for other Seesaw for Schools teachers to make a copy of it, you can add your Activity to your School's Library, or you can become a Seesaw Pioneer and share your Activity to the Community Library
