NotebookLM is an AI research assistant that functions as a private, source-controlled AI chatbot. It utilizes Google Gemini to analyze user-provided documents, websites, and media (PDFs, YouTube, audio). Unlike other chatbots (like ChatGPT, Grok, Claude, or Gemini), it only answers based on uploaded materials and includes clickable citations to eliminate hallucinations.

Students and teachers can access Notebook LM using their @shakopeeschools.org Google Account. Students on iPads are recommended to use Safari to access this tool. Once they have signed in, users can create a notebook and then upload, link to, or search for sources. Once you have sources uploaded, you can use the chat to ask questions and it will analyze only the sources you provided to answer your questions. Students and teachers can also open the Studio to generate materials such as audio or video overviews of the sources, infographics, slide decks, and flashcards. Currently, some of the Studio tools available to teachers are not available to students. The tools available are subject to change.
